With Apple exclusivity on RED Raven might there be more in Apple’s interest.

RED Hydrogen One Smartphone / Camera system. Do you think Apple wants RED running Android on that?

You think Apple selling RED Raven is just about selling a new Mac Pro that’s still in development?

I think there’s more to come in this Apple RED relationship.

[Craig Seeman] “Do you think Apple wants RED running Android on that?”

Would Apple have any say in what Red does with a phone that they are developing?

I can’t imagine that iOS would be able to handle this, at least not right now. We talk a lot about “niche” markets here, and I believe Red’s phone will satisfy a niche, it won’t satisfy the general iOS market.

[Craig Seeman] “You think Apple selling RED Raven is just about selling a new Mac Pro that’s still in development?”

Maybe. It may be about putting the Pro in to Final Cut Pro to the people who think there’s no Pro. It may be about getting ProRes to work on a Red reliably. I don’t know.

It’s definitely a curious move for Apple to sell a Red kit exclusively, but it may be just what it is on the surface, a business partnership of a camera and an NLE, and it might not go beyond this particular scope.

Hadn’t realised there were huge issues with prores on red other than requiring a new firmware update so that the prores files aren’t spanned accross multiple chunks due to file format of red mags?
