    Hi.

I want to do professional editing at home and I bought avid mediacomposer 3.0 academic version and now I need to buy an computer to edit on. I want to buy an apple but I don’t know what i should buy: Imac or Mac pro.
The difference in money is big.
So i would like to know. if I buy an Imac can I do some professional editing with effects? because people tell me that on an Imac you can only edit from dvcam and not HD.
And what can you do with mediacomposer 3.0 academic version?

    thank you for responding

Media Composer 3.0 will work fine on an iMac…one of the newer ones, released in the past two years. They use many of these in a few reality shows I worked on, producers making initial cuts.

But with an iMac you are limited to formats capturable via firewire and tapeless formats. DV, HDV, DVCPRO HD, P2, XDCAM.

GETTING ORGANIZED WITH FINAL CUT PRO DVD…don’t miss it.

I use a MacBook Pro and love it. Certainly I am giving up the power of a desktop machine, but the portable factor is great.

Whatever you buy, make sure it has firewire. Apple is not putting it on everything anymore.
