Media Requirements
A TV network in the states sent some requirements, and we are from the Philippines. Can anyone please help us to understand these:
MEDIA REQUIREMENTS FOR TVC
ON-AIR CREATIVE: ***
Electronic spot delivery is preferred
We use DG FastChannel and Vyvx.Physical tapes
• Two DigiBeta on-air tapes with drop frame timecode, no multi-reels, to address listed
below.
• Only one set of tapes in total should be sent.
• HD FORMAT SPECS:
Format: 1080 i
Frame Rate: 59.94
Tape: HDCAM or HDCAM-SR with drop frame timecode
Audio Configuration: Channels 1 / 2 – Full Mix Channels 3 / 4 – Dolby E *if Available
Aspect Ratio: 16:9 Full Screen only
• When sending an HD format spot, an SD format spot with a unique isci code must also be sent.In regards with 1080i, there really a frame of 59.94 for 1080i??, I am using apple compressor, and I couldn’t find a setting for 59.94 1080i.

1080i60 is 59.94 *fields* per second aka 29.97 *frames* per second while 720p60 is 59.94 *frames* per second. Why, when referring to 1080i, the industry started referring to the field rate and not the frame rate I have no idea but it can get freakin’ confusing.

WHat are you using compressor to transfer these from? What is your original footage?
The specs they are talking about refer to what is expected on the final videotape and not to file settings.

HD is always written in the scan rate or Hz. Interlaced always refers to the field rate because that’s one scan of the frame. With progressive the scan rate and the frame rate are the same.

The original digitize materials are p2 720p mats. I editted the mats, using final cut pro,and so far the quality didn’t pixelate, since I used a 1080i preset sequence. I then compressed it in apple compressor, via export>use compressor feature in final cut.
this time I use several preset settings, in compressor, 1080i’s preset and 720p preset.
I found that the 1080i60, in the compressor setting is the best one among the rest.

What preset or easy setup did you use for your 1080i sequence?
If you chose a 1080i60 sequence and played this off to HDCAM, then you would be meeting their requirements. There is no need to go to compressor and make an adjustment.

I use a DVCPRO HD 1080ip30 in my timeline for the edit and exported the mats in a 1080i Umcompress format. but I export it in several different formats in HDV and DVCPRO HD, use only the 1080i preset. they told the quality didn’t suffer at all.
