I’m trying to put together a photo montage in AE. I put one photo in a designated photo comp and added that photo as an essential graphics property. When I duplicate the photo comp and try to replace the photo with another one, it doesn’t display in the comp viewer. It shows that the photo updated in the properties panel and in the essential graphics content of the comp layer in the timeline and it creates a media replacement folder in the project panel, but it doesn’t actually show up in the comp viewer. Any suggestions on what may be happening? I uploaded a screen recording as well.

Best guess from looking at your video is that you have added your precomp to your main comp, then you’ve turned it into an Essential Graphic. I’ve noticed when making changes to an EG when it’s in another comp, the changes don’t seem to propagate. Deleting it and re-adding it seems to solve the problem.

    Check the following:

    1. Layer Visibility: Ensure the new photo is visible in the timeline and opacity is 100%.
    2. Frame Size: Verify the photo fits within the comp frame.
    3. Essential Graphics Link: Re-link the photo in Essential Graphics and save.
    4. Clear Cache: Go to Edit > Purge > All Memory & Disk Cache.
    5. Precomp Settings: Ensure precomp dimensions match the main comp.

Try these steps and see if it works!
