Absolutely baffled with all of a sudden off line files in Premiere Pro cs3. They are showing up as online clips in the project window but something is way wrong. If I shift a clip on the time line even a few frames left or right the video suddenly appears again but when I go to save it and render and reboot they are off line again!? I checked where my scratch disk are set to saving and a strange extension appeared before my drive and root folder.

    \\?\F:\outdoorshow_episode_2\episode_2_redo.prproj

I made a new project in a completely new location and imported the project and reset the scratch disks for rendering…same thing. going out of my mind. Help

Try going back to the original project and use the project manager to consolidate to a different drive instead. I’m guessing this was on an external drive? I have seen strange things happen myself on CS3 when I was working on an eSata. Also make sure you permanently change the drive letter to something like Y or Z so that it never get taken over.

    Scott,

Did you ever find out what was causing this? I have the same problem, and am getting crashes every 20 minutes.

I’ve tried swapping my scratch disks for previews around, deleting cache files, etc, but to no avail.

    Any advice would be great.

Greg, no dice so far. I tried trimming the project into a new location but same deal. Whats happening now is that everytime I start a new project my scratch disk setting remain pointing towards my last project. If i set it to “same as project” I get that weird \\?\F;\projects\ and so I have to set it custom. If I dont catch it Im rendering stuff all over the place and have been burned a bunch. Curious to hear if you found anything on your end. Scott

I am having the same issue (w/Premiere Pro CS3). I too tried shifting the missing clips, only to receive critical error message when I attempt to encode the project. frustrating to say the least. I may try to reload the software and start fresh…but prior to doing that I will keep searching for potential solutions. good luck all
