Media offline in Avid MC after moving files
Problem: Avid MC can’t find project files. I had the media files for two different projects in the “Avid MediaFiles” folder on my raid 0 drive. (The audio files for one of the projects were in an OMF MediaFiles folder.) I thought I might speed up editing processes on each project by moving the mxf files to separate folders. I left Project A’s files in the Avid MediaFiles folder and moved Project B’s files to a differently named folder. Now when I open Project A in Avid, everything is offline. Also, a lot of both projects’ bins in the Avid Projects folder have 0 kb size. I’m thinking the problem may have to do with the database files (msmxx.mdb and msmxx.pmr) but I’m unclear on the function of these or how I may have messed them up. I’m also thinking I ought to try moving all the media files back together in the same folder but I’m afraid of making things worse. Any thoughts on how to solve this problem? Jim

That’s the issue. In order for Avid to understand where media is located, it must be in this structure:
Drive / Avid MediaFiles / MXF / (number)
All files must be in a numbered folder inside the MXF folder. You can still keep them separate, just make one project’s media files in “1” and the other in “2”. Once you have that sorted, open each numbered folder and sort by Kind. Delete anything that’s not an MXF file and then launch MC. It will recreate the databases and indexes, and then your media should come back online.
