I have 100 clips that say media offline in an 90 minute video. I know how to reconnect the files but there’s a problem finding them. I captured the video without naming the files but I named them in the browser. In the capture scratch they’re named “untitled(#). Are there any other ways to find them? Does the FCP know the original name of the clips?

Oof… This is bad. This is a PRIME example of naming the clips as you capture them. Or at least using the RENAME option in FCP 6 and FCP 7. If you rename a clip in the Browser, you can then choose MODIFY>RENAME>File to match CLIP and the file in the finder will be renamed to the one you gave it. If not, you have Untitled, Untitled-1, Untitled-2 and so on. And if you have more than ONE project where you don’t name when you capture, you’ll have MULTIPLE instances of UNTITLED, and that really freaks FCP out.

Unless you know the EXACT location of the specific UNTITLED files, you might be in for importing all the files from the FiNDER and looking through them to find your file…and then noting the name…or at least LOCATION, and then trying to relink.

    Icky…

[Eric Goggin] “I captured the video without naming the files but I named them in the browser.”

This is a bad idea, for just this reason. When you log & capture, you have the opportunity to give your clips meaningful names. Take that opportunity.
