We are editing a show on 2 Avid Systems (Avid Media Composer 4.0.5 w Adrenaline running on PCs). All the media and the project spaces are in Avid Unity. We have 2 Unity workspaces, one for the project, the other for the media.

This morning, the editor next door deleted 20 pictures from the media drive. So not a big number, just 20 pictures. I immediately got the “Scanning the media drive” message. When it stopped scannning, A LOT of the media was offline. We realized that the media that was offline was, specifically, media that did not refer to a specific time code (music, imported footage, and scratch VOs…so basically, everything that wasn’t footage with TC).

After restarting the systems, refreshing the media directories, remounting the drives, etc… They were still offline. In the other room, though, they were still online. So, finally, I trashed the media directories and, after scanning the media drive, things were up again.

So it was all fine in the end! I’m just wondering why this happened? I mean, it probably had to do with the deleting of the pictures, it kind of messed the ability of the Unity to link the data to its media? Just curious.

    Thanks!
