  • Media not reconnecting to original clips

I’m helping a friend add titles and edit his project that was done on final cut express. I opened the project in Final Cut Pro 6 and the media will not reconnect to the original clips. The render files connected though and I was able to export a quicktime movie. What’s wrong? I have the original clips he used to create the project in FCE in the same hard drive.

Same edit system? Or did you move the hard drive to a different one?

I got his project on a flash drive where the sequence (created on Final Cut Express) and the original clips where copied from a laptop (Apple) computer. I copied these files to my IMac desktop and proceeded to open the project in Final Cut Pro 6. The project opened but I could not reconnect the media even if I lead the path to the original clips saved on my IMac. The rendered files reconnected though. But I cannot edit the clips on the sequence timeline.

Were you given the option to reconnect the clips? Or were they grayed out and not selectable? Have you tried reconnecting the media and de-selecting the box that asks for “Matched name and reel only”? You can force reconnect your clips that way but it would be best to save a copy of the project file before doing this.

I just did that and still media won’t reconnect. I tried reconnecting by right clicking one clip in the bin And connect it to the original clip of the same name file and still no connection.
