    Hi all,
I’m working on a film which is self-contained on an external hard-drive (all the media and project files). I just captured three tapes, however, and realised that I had accidentally selected the internal drive on my computer to store the media. I’m sure there must be an easy way of copying this media across to the external hard drive and then telling AVID to link the master clips to this new location ….but don’t know how. I’ve got a hunch the media tool is involved but got a bit scared and thought I’d try and find refuge here…

    Thanks as always,
    Paul

Shut down Avid, go to your internal drive and open your media folder. Sort by date modified and select the most recent files (if this is the most recent thing you did). Otherwise, select the files who’s date/time correspond to when you captured them.

Once you have these files selected, cut them and paste them into your media folder on your external drive (E:\Avid MediaFiles\MXF\1). Put them in the numbered folder.

You may want to delete the two database files in your external media folder, then launch Avid. It will rescan your external drive and should automatically relink your footage.

Then, go to your Media Creation settings and check to “Filter out System Drive”. This way you can’t capture to your internal drive anymore.

    Michael,
Many thanks, that worked really well.

One small thing – when I opened up AVID after moving the media between the drives, it came up with an error message about a problem reading certain media files. The options were to quarantine, ignore or cancel I think. I did ‘ignore all’ and it seems to be working fine. I just presumed it was thinking there was a problem because some of the media had changed drive – would that make some sense?
