    Hello all,

Quick question. I received Prores 4444 QT rushes on a drive and conformed a 30s advert. When it was time to grade I attempted to media-manage only the shots I wanted with 2 sec handles. FCP refused to do it properly, only copying from the first frame of the master clip meaning that the wrong material was copied.

Yet when I selected ‘recompress’ on the drop down, it worked a-ok. Media manager worked perfectly with other Prores HQ files I tested. All rushes are 25fps and advert is also 25fps so no TC weirdness.

    Anyone seen something similar ?

    Many thanks all !
    James

Yeah, i thought maybe the clips didnt have reel names but they did. Tried changing it as well but exactly the same effect. Really strange

There is something odd about Alexa QTs. They don’t play in KiPros for example. I had to do a simple Save As… in QT to get them to work. It may be the way they are recorded. To avoid complete file corruption if powered down while recording the Alexa opens and closes the movie for every frame it records.

Of course ! Nicely done, how silly of me not to do that in the first place.

I mean, its still not a great workflow to have to introduce an extra step but its something…

Thanks very much all for your comments !

Glad to help. You may be able to get away with just making new ref movies. I have a feeling it’s the wrapper that causing issues so a ref movie would solve that. I’d try using FCP’s batch export to quickly make ref “copies” of all the Alexa media. Just take are not to isolate the ref from it’s “kin”.
