Is there any reason that Media Manager would not want to recompress certain files, but works fine with others?

I have a project that I’m working on where all of the footage from one day of shooting will not recompress using the Media Manager. When I select the clip in media manager, and select the “recompress” option, the original and the estimated output sizes remain the same regardless of the compression setting I use. When I do export the file, regardless of the compressor I choose the exported video is just a copy of the original.

The rest of the footage from the other days works fine.

I’ve tried putting the file into multiple sequences and multiple projects, but it still won’t work through the media manager.

Since the original footage was shot using a digital source, I re-exported my offline for one file and now it works. The strange thing is that all of the file attributes are identical between the two!

Try adding a REEL NUMBER…if they are lackingone. That usually stops Media Manager in its tracks.

[Shane Ross] “Try adding a REEL NUMBER”

Both files have an identical reel name and identical logging information. I tried changing the reel number, but that didn’t fix it.

Hi, I encountered that problem (in FCP 4.5).
It’s happening because there is a previous copy of the clip already created in the “Master Clips” folder of your new project created in Media Manager. Media Manager won’t overwrite it.

    Solution is:
    – if you don’t need that old copy, delete it.
    – or create a new, empty folder and make your new Media Manager project there.

Thanks for that solution. However, I am already starting with a new, empty folder. The clip will copy, but it will not recompress.

You probably already found a solution to your problem by now.. But I encountered the same and my solution was simply to change the first drop down-menu from “copy” to “recompress” and then choose my desired format and directory.
