I media managed a sequence out today for a tech test, selecting ‘Copy’ and ‘Delete Unused Media/1 sec handles/Include Affiliates’. The video was on multiple layers, and was comprised of XDCAM dailies (all on V1), and other format clips of archival material on the other layers. Media Manager did not truncate ProRes and DV clips, instead copying the entire master clip, but it correctly chopped and truncated XDCAM clips and DVCPRO clips as expected. I’m trying to see a pattern in the clips, but there isn’t an obvious one – they were mixed rez, but some of the lowrez elements were chopped, some not. There were different frame rates, but that isn’t it either.

What’s going on? Is there something peculiar which determines which formats will or will not delete the unused media? Or is this just another “Oh, yes, Media Manager isn’t very reliable” issue?!

    Philip,

Which version of FCP are you running? This has been an issue in the past, but as of 6.05, we have been
    quite successful using MM.

This is on FCP 6.06, under 10.5.8.

Shane Ross as usual came up with the answer over on the Apple forums. Media manager does not wrangle clips that have no reel number, and none of these clips had a reel number, since they were disk sourced. I’ll move forward on that basis.
