I had a client yesterday who had edited their offline (dv) video by capturing the entire tape one by one (2 hours total) then editing from there.

When we did the online (digibeta) no matter what I tried, FCP 5.04 would insist on capturing the full tapes again instead of just the clips used.

We still got the job done under max budget, but it has me wondering, is there something in media manager to make it so we don’t have to capture everything? Just what is used?

    any insight much appreciated.

An often overlooked and critical 1st step- before you open up the media manager, select your entire timeline, right click & choose “Make independant clip”.

so does that put all the independent offline clips in a new bin or an existing bin?
