  • Media Encoder won’t encode; finally says “unknown error”

Posted by Nick Dantonio on February 27, 2010 at 5:44 pm

I’m working on a newer MacBook Pro thats running on OS 10.6 with Premiere CS4.

I’m trying to export my video and once it’s in the Media Encoder queue and I hit “Start” it just sits there for 30-60 minutes seemingly doing nothing. Under status it says “encoding” but at the bottom it says “elapsed queue time: 00:00:00” after 45 minutes. This is my third try to render out this video. The first three times I left it overnight or left the room and when I came back there had been an error that apparently stopped it from encoding. When I clicked on the yellow “!” a text file opened and it said that there was an “unknown error”.

I’m up against a hard deadline and can’t figure out what the problem is.

Not sure if this has anything to do with it but ever since I upgraded to Snow Leopard all of my Adobe programs are constantly “not responding” and I’m having to force quit them. And there have been many other small errors. …just trying to give all the details.

    Thanks…

It just happened again for the forth time. Now at the bottom instead of the elapsed queue time being at zero, it reads “00:49:33”. The clock went from zero to 49:33 without visibly counting up.

Again it says “Error compiling movie. Unknown error.”
