Just a quick question. What would any of you suggest between the two choices? Adobe’s CS4 Media Encoder or Sorenson Squeeze? This would not only be for the use of videos on the web or ipod, but also for DVD and broadcast. I think squeeze does a bang up job, but just started playing with the new media encoder and am still not sure if I like it yet or not. What say you?

Squeeze will always offer more control and probably that extra 5% of quality. Then again, it’ll cost you some extra $$$ to get it and more knowledge to really be able to harness it’s power.

AME has improved version over version and they use solid codecs like Main Concept. Because it is a separate application now and integrated with CS4, it will render your jobs in the background, allowing you to keep working. It offers the most important features like bit rates, frame rates, progressive, cropping and of course CBR/VBR and 2 pass VBR.

My recommendation would be to do some homework on encoding (I like Aharon’s DVD from CreativeCow) and give AME a try. If it doesn’t present the quality you’re looking for, Squeeze is a good product.

I would have to agree with you on the training video that Aharon has put together. It really is a great DVD and one can learn a lot from it. Unfortunately it came out before he could really dive into the Media Encoder that CS4 offers, hence why I haven’t used Adobe’s program a lot when working with video files. I think for me to get the best out of Media Encoder, the information on that video still applies and is a good tool to have. Thanks Dennis, I feel encouraged to play with Media Encoder a little more and see which one suits my needs. (Still like squeeze a lot though so I know I won’t give that program up!)
