  • Media Encoder not working CS6… won’t launch

Posted by Kevin O’brien on September 27, 2013 at 10:32 pm

I’ve installed CS6 Master Suite on my PC… when I click on Media Encoder it just sits there… won’t open. When I export from Premiere Pro to the Render Que NO Media Encoder window pops up… no sign of anything happening.

Any suggestions? I really need to get this working…

    Hi Kevin,
Some people fix this issue by trashing prefs. If that doesn’t work, try a reinstall.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Thanks for the reply Kevin.

I’m confused… trash preferences? Which preferences?

Won’t I need them at some point?

If you have a procedure could you relay it to me…

    thanks.. I appreciate your input

The preferences are set by you, so if you trash them, you’ll have to reset them…but there are times when the preferences can become corrupted and prevent the application from launching on occasion. If this is a fairly new install, it’s less likely to be the issue, but it never hurts to try.

I’m assuming you selected Media Encoder to be included in the install and that you see it installed and have an icon to launch it, etc…

I would try a new install as it doesn’t seem like the app shows itself at all…is this Windows or Mac?

    Thanks for the reply Tim:

This is on a PC with Windows 7

It is a new install of CS6 on the PC, Media Encoder has never opened from the start. The Media Encoder icon is in the taskbar, but it won’t launch.

I’m not getting any error messages.

Is it possible to re-install Media Encoder by itself… or does in install along with Premiere?

    Thanks for any suggestions…

I think the installer should give you the option for each application. I haven’t used the perpetual license installer for a while…but I’m pretty certain the media encoder is a separate check box.

OK.. tried clicking on Media Encoder icon while holding down Alt-Shift, and Alt-Shift-Control… Nothing happens…

I’m guessing my only course of action at this point is to uninstall – re-install Media Encoder… anyone certain as to whether this require Re-installing Premiere or just Media Encoder

I don’t think it will take much extra time to reinstall both apps, so I’d say to replace them both…but maybe restart the machine after uninstalling, and before reinstalling…

I had the same problem and here is how I solved it. I have two computers each has CS6 and one of them the encoder won’t launch.
I copied the entire directory of C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Media Encoder CS6
into a network drive, you can also user a USB drive.
Then renamed the directory on the computer that Encoder doesn’t work to something else
Then copied the good directory from the network drive, or USB drive, in the proper location.

Then started it and it worked.

BTY, I tried re-installing and the problem was still there.

    Good luck!

    1. Locate the file:
    C :. \ Program Files (x86) \ Common Files \ Adobe \ SLCache \ X19zbGNfZmVhdHVyZXNfXw == slc
    2. Open it with a text editor (Notepad)
    3. Delete all of the text file
    4. Save and close
    5. Now click the file right > click “Preferences”.
    6. Select the ‘Read Only’.
    7. Close> OK.

    Now open Adobe Media Encoder.
