  • media Encoder for constant frame rate conversion

Posted by Peter Groom on April 14, 2020 at 8:06 am

Hi – I put this question in the Media Encoder forum but had no response so Ill re post here!

Lots of webcam recordings seem to be in variable frame rate, and Premiere doesnt play these back smoothly, and often with sync issues.

My question- is Adobe Media Encoder a good place to convert these files to constant.?
Is there a better place to do it? Which file format is best to convert to?

Any advice or thoughts much appreciated.

Save yourself a lot of headaches by editing with proxies. Use the Media Browser to Ingest your raw files, and set up a proxy preset to automatically transcode those files, keeping the originals intact and still useable in the project for final export.

Another option – Handbrake will convert to constant frame rate. It is well very popular within the industry, and free.

    https://handbrake.fr/

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2017.1 (as of 8/2017)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from UHD MP4, HD MP4, and HD P2 MXF.

Since Premiere can only use AME for its proxy workflow, I’d say that AME is hands down the best solution.

There’s also Resolve which I think is the best program for proxy creation.

AME is NOT the tool for vfr: audio will go out of sync.
Handbrake is the way to go.

I thought that this was fixed.

Perhaps only in PPro, and not AME?
