Media Database
Posted by Dan Nethery on October 15, 2007 at 11:43 pmCan anyone suggest a Media Database or some sort of Library software?
We are about to put together our Xsan and have tons of video. We have about 40TB of video that has to be organized. I know Final Cut Serve is on its way but I need something in 3 weeks. IDavid Bogie replied 18 years, 7 months ago 4 Members · 3 Replies -

We take a two pronged approach. For specific logging info we use “Pilotware”. (www.pilotware.com). This is a filemaker pro based logging programing that has it’s own dedicated server. Check it out.
On our X-SAN however, we just use the mac based file structure to keep it all organized. With a little care and attention to how you set things up, this can work out just fine. We’re juggling almost 50 terrabytes of data, and still manage to keep it all straight.

October 16, 2007 at 5:41 pmDigital Asset Management is a huge and over-hyped marketplace these days. Everyone’s trying to maximize return by repurposing previously leveraged assets. DAM is fairly easy to implement but designing your catalog’s taxonomical structure is much more difficult than the sellers of these products would have you believe.
The recommendations for products you have gotten here are helpfu,l but, my gosh, without a thorough demonstration on your site using your material and your servers it’s painfully simple to make a really BAD decision, even on cheap products.
All I can tell you is to stay away from Canto Cumulus. It is a prime example of everything that is evil and disgusting in the DAM marketplace. The guys who make Cumulus owe everyone an apology.
