    Hello, new here…

I’m wanting to purchase Video editing software from Avid, however I’m torn between Media Composer and Xpress Pro 5.7. Can anyone tell me the BIG differences between packages? Also, in addition to Video editing, I’m using digital photography as well. Does the Avid product support this?

    Thanks,
    Eddie

You should check the full list of differences, but for me important is that MC has more codecs, better slomo / speed up (blended), Spectramatte and Animatte.
But there is quite some price difference. Not important if you work with it on daily, but if you have more time than money…
And no, it does not do anything with photography.

    Thanks…

So, are you not able to “add” still images to a video with MC or Xpress?

Yes, you can add stills and pan/zoom on them in both Xpress Pro and MC. I’d wait till the NAB Avid announcements before I’d purchase anything. Just over a month away.

This is an old comparison, but the basic differences are still the same:

Media Composer is definately the way to go, but I agree to wait until NAB if that works for you.

Not familier with NAB…is this a new software altogether, or an update?

N.A.B. The National Association of Broadcasters. There’s a big NAB convention in Vegas every April, and it’s typically when companies make new product announcements.
