  • Media Composer Not Reading Captions Embedded in Linked MXF File

I recently updated from a Mid-2010 Mac Pro running Media Composer 2018.5 to a brand new Mac Studio M1 Max running MC 2022.7. On the old system, I edited using XDCAM HD 50 MXF files with 608 and 708 closed captions embedded in the files. I linked them via AMA, edited, and then exported various file types with the captions embedded in them as well.

Since I switched over to the new system, MC will link the video and audio from these files but ignore the captions, and it does this about half the time with no rhyme or reason that I can find as to why it sees it in some clips and doesn’t in others.

I bounce around between dozens of projects that are set up this way, and I bounce around every day. I can’t afford to spend the time to go and re-export all the master clips all over again to treat them like new files to link via the Source Browser in MC. I need to figure out how to get MC to see the captions in the files I’m already using.

Is there a way to refresh the link between the clip and MC? It treats the media as online, but the captions aren’t there… and I KNOW they are embedded in the files I’m linking to. I can see them in other applications.

Any help would be appreciated. I cannot figure out how to fix this.
