After installing Avid Media Composer 8.3, I noticed there are two utilities that launch when I boot my Mac Pro – one is a “background” application (for transcoding?) and the other is a utility that manages and downloads updates from Avid (not unlike Adobe’s Application Manager.)

Do they both need to launch every time I boot up? Or can I configure these apps to only run when I launch Media Composer?

I’d prefer that these applications not run all the time and tie up my system’s RAM – even with 10Gb of RAM. 🙂

    Thanks!

I shut those down when I reboot. The Application Manager does eat up memory and pings the server a lot. I quit that out of the Activity monitor as there is the app, and an app helper you need to shut down. I don’t believe there is a setting to not have it launch when rebooting.

Background and DNF transcoding can be shut down by right clicking the icon in the menu bar.

    Thanks, Michael.

I can right-click both of these apps in the Mac OSX top toolbar, but I’m tired of doing it.

Edit the plist for App manager. It is set to run at start up as TRUE. Change it to FALSE and it won’t run at start up or reboot.

Great to know, thanks! Would be nice to have that as a setting in the app itself.

Yes, good to know. And thanks for that suggestion.

I can edit a plist but I wish it were simpler than this.
