I’m considering getting Avid Media Composer 4 software for Mac to do post-production sound and to use the application for my own projects. Hence, I have questions about audio and video.

Concerning audio, does MC4 integrate at all with Pro Tools LE or MP? I recently saw a demo with MC4, PTHD and a roomful of hardware, but that’s not what I want. I’m strictly CPU. The demo showed MC4 being “slaved” to Pro Tools, but maybe it was OMF. Is Digitranslator compatible with PTMP?

Concerning video, does MC4 import MOV? What is the quality of native MXF? I have Premiere Pro CS4.2 and am not impressed with its native MXF quality. I don’t fathom how Premiere can compromise MXF quality if it reads it natively. That’s the nice thing about FCP is that the MXF is untouched and is merely wrapped inside MOV with its audio files, but a lot of people have been pushing Apple for years to go native. It’s not worth it if it turns out crummy.

    Thanks.
