  • Measure multi-stream and simultaneous read/write speeds?

Posted by Blase Theodore on September 6, 2017 at 8:52 pm

I use the blackmagic to quick test disk speeds, but thats only doing a single file stream. I’d like to know what performance hits look like under multi-read and simultaneous read/write scenarios.

Does anyone have a mac compatible software tool they recommend?

    Thanks!

You may want to look into IoMeter.

    https://www.iometer.org/

The GUI is windows only but can run benchmarks on the mac using the Dynamo agent.

You’ll probably have to read through the docs.

    Hi Blase,

Look into Bright Technologies https://www.4bright.com. They have the software tools you’re looking for.

They have been qualify storage configurations for streaming media since post went digital. Over the years they have worked with suppliers like Dothill, Xyratex, Infortrend, Nexsan, plus others. Their software can simulate applications thread counts, buffer size, fps, file layout, etc. for real world testing and verification.

    Cheers!

Thanks Matthew. Will give Dynamo a shot.

Thanks Shawn. (just looking for a free/cheap tool to measure disk load, but I will keep Bright systems in mind for future.)
