Any experts on BCC Chroma Key out there? I have spent the last 5 hours trying to get a shot to key. It’s DV with a lot of spill (yes, trouble right there) and no option to reshoot or buy any plugins we don’t already own.

    Here’s what I’ve tried
    – Keylight in After Effects (Couldn’t get a good matte)
    – Linear Color Keyer in After Effects (Got an OK matte, but AE spill suppressor isn’t touching the horror)
    – BCC Chroma Keyer. Couldn’t get a good matte, but really good spill suppression. Tried to use BCC Matte cleanup on top of Chroma Keyer, just got a strange pixelly image.
    – BCC Linear Color Keyer. Even better matte than AE, but no spill suppression.

    Any ideas?

Definitely go for SpectraMatte…but that’s only available on MCA 2 and later. If you’re on a 1.0 or 1.5 system, you’re out of luck.

What SpectraMatte can create is scary…better than Ultimatte!

try dv garage’s dvmatte pro for after effects… Its meant for keying dv footage although it will key just about anything you give it. It saved me in a situation that I couldn’t get to key even with the master keyer in discreet’s smoke system… I know you can’t buy any software but it worked great for me and it sounds like you are in a similar situation that I was in.

Thanks for the suggestions… last time we looked at buying plugins, the render times seemed too long. Now that we’ve upgraded our systems, might be worth looking at. For this project – I ended up taking the matte from Linear Color Keyer and threw the spill suppressor from Avid Chroma Keyer on top. Not perfect, but acceptable.
