i was trying to reconnect the media in an FCP project file with the associated clips on my 500 GB LaCie drive when i saw that they would not reconnect for some reason. so i started to dump them back to my main internal media drive, and 3 times in a row the computer crashed (prompting me to hold down the power button and restart), which i have done three times now.

if i try to play the selected QT clips from the LaCie drive, i get this – “QT cannot open the selected file. it is not a file that QT understands (-2048)”. i’ve also looked up error number -2048 on the web and didn’t find any answers…

    any ideas??

thanks for helping out a bonehead,

yes, and it seemed to be working fine until i tried bringing these QT files back to my main media drive. also, the files show up in the Finder as “QuickTime movies”, but won’t play in QT nor will they reconnect to my FCP project. strangely, this is only happening in one folder, as i have another folder full of QT movies on the same LaCie drive that are playing fine right off the drive. it’s as if this one folder got corrupted somehow. does this happen very often?

I’ve never heard of an entire folder getting corrupted. Individual files; but not an entire folder. Sounds weird man.

yes, very wierd. i’ve been getting a few answers over at the Blackmagic Decklink forum under the thread title “error -2048?” if you want to follow along or end up having any similar issues.
