  • Maya or Cinema 4D?

    Now,

I know most people are going to be byest to C4D in this situation. But as a new 3D user I’d like some honest opinions.
I am a motion graphics designer and I have been trying to learn Maya/MAC for the past year. The learning curve in the biginning has been really difficult. We have guys in our shop that use 3DS on PC’s and I see how much easier it is for them to build and animate objects. I’m thinking for testing out a new 3D package. I’ve heard that C4D is really great for motion graphics and al lot of the big design studios are using it. Like Belief etc…. I ‘ve heard that Maya is an amazing program, and I’m sure it is, but in your mind.. would C4D be a better match for me a motion designer? And maybe the learning curve might not be so steep in the beginning? Or should I just continue on my battle with Maya?

Hope some of you mater C4D guys could lend a helping word,

    Cheers,

    Adam

I tried to pick up Maya for many years and found the learning curve just too steep(also couldn’t fathom Lightwave or Max). In contrast I found C4D much easier to learn and create good work with. Demo is great way to try it out.

I pretty much started by downloading the demo from Maxon and then playing with the tutorials they have on their site. There’s even more user friendly ones to be had over on https://www.c4dcafe.com/ Be patient of course. I was playing with the demo for a few months of off and on use before I finally bit the bullet and bought it.

Ko Maruyama is a motion graphics guy who uses Cinema. You might find his tutorials helpful: https://homepage.mac.com/komaruyama/Tutorials/

Tim Clapham is another, although his tutorials/examples are more complex: https://www.hypa.tv/tims/download.html

I think you’ll find Cinema a much *much* friendlier place.

I use both. For motion graphics I think C4D is far better suited in many respects. If you’re doing heavy character animations, Fluid dynamics, or heavily programmed custom tools then go with Maya. If not C4D will be your best bet me thinks.
