Does AFX 6.5 support the extra data that Maya IFF files have? (ie the RLA-type of 3D channel data for fog, dof, etc.) I am able to bring in IFF files into Combustion 4 and use all the 3D channel operators but AFX 6.5 just seems to load the IFF sequence. I’ve tried fog and DOF and all it seems to do is just turn on and off (applied to the whole frame) and ignores the depth.

I’m not a Maya guy (yet), so feel free to disregard: did you choose to render the necessary buffers at the time of rendering in Maya?

I didn’t have to designate any buffers for it to work in Combustion.

    Never mind … 🙂

I think you have to render out the sequence from Maya as .rla making sure you check the z-depth option.

it doesn’t work. I put in my previous post that Maya’s RLA saver is pretty much useless, I guess just like AFX’s IFF loader is useless.

You can learn to work around Zdepth issues and just use regular Maya Iffs for color and alpha….

Another bummer is that Maya 7.0 MR iffs won’t work in AE at all…so you need to convert these to tif or similar. I know that Jill Ramsey from Alias has contacted Adobe about this and they said they will fix it for the version of AE after AE 7.0 so it will be a while but in the meantime Alias is going to look into it to see if it’s something they can fix on there end…I mean Autodesk?
