  • Maxtor OneTouch III Turbo – Disk Utility does not show it as a RAID

I just picked up a Maxtor Onetouch III Turbo to use as a Media Raid with FCP on my iMac 24″ 2.16 (OSX 10.5.5) The drive(s) came with all kinds of software (which I did not load) I am able to see the drive on my desktop, but It does not look like a typical “RAID” from the Disk Utility. I see only one disk “1.8 TB Maxtor” with 1 volume “Untitled”.

Is the Raid handled through the enclosure? (Connected FW 800) and that is why the Mac Disk Utility sees just one drive? Is their a way to See and Stripe the two HDDs through the OS’s Disk Utility? (would that be better or worse?)

Eventually I read that using the Newer Maxtor Manager (For the one touch 4) works with 10.5.5, so I uploaded it. The Maxtor Manager show that the Maxtor Drives are stripped Raid 0 accross two drives.

Maybe it is better to leave it the way it is. Any light on the matter is appreciated!
