April 20, 2006 at 3:39 pmI agree…
I also feel I can achieve most of the stuff in the demo
but… the easier stuff gets the happier I am to be able to concentrate
on creative aspects of production work…I can’t wait

I think it was exactly the opposite of that. 🙂

April 20, 2006 at 8:34 pmI too wondered what happened to Response and thought that it was such a waste for it to go away, but now this? Man, next on my list was the Advanced Renderer, but I can wait a tad bit longer on that to get this module. Maxon is paying attention and this will pay huge dividends because as more artists use C4D it will in a very ‘trojan horse’ like fashion find itself in most of the major production houses.
This is an awesome development!

Meaning, because they went away, Mograph came out? If so, that was an incredibly quick developement time. Makes me wonder if the Jenna folks worked on it at all, if not, it had to be inspired from it.

No, the developer of Jenna had no part in the coding of Mograph.Maxon’s decision wasn’t as precipitous as you might think. There’s quite a history with Jenna and the other tools made by David Farmer, a/k/a darf. Jenna was originally released commercially about three years ago. Then David’s company, Bhodinut, went out of business and Jenna and their other plugs became unsupported and were unavailable. Next darf formed another company called Cidertank, and Jenna and some other plugins were available again. That was short-lived, and once again the plugins were off the market and unsupported. After some months, darf joined Core Arsenal and, yep, Jenna and some new plugins became available again. After a while they decided to give Jenna away as part of a 3D World promotion. I think it was still available for purchase too. Then darf and Core decided to move to Maya, and, yep, Jenna and the other plugs were gone again. Some months later darf made a deal with 3D Attack, whereby Jenna was available for free, and darf’s sound animation plugin, Response, was sold commercially. Then darf had a falling out with 3D Attack, and yep, the plugins were gone again. Darf had other fine plugins too, many of which had a very short shelf life before they became extinct.
No question that David made great tools, but his on-again-off-again support was extremely disconcerting to everyone who relied on them. Of course Maxon was aware of the whole soap opera and thankfully stepped in to fill the gap. In truth Mograph is orders of magnitude beyond what was previously available.
So that’s the short version. 🙂 To his everlasting credit, darf and his partner Jamie wrote the awesome SLA shaders that were later purchased by Maxon and incorporated into Cinema.

April 21, 2006 at 5:28 amIt is all clear to me now. I got Jenna from the 3D World promo. Since then I thought I couldn’t live w/o Jenna. Big kudos to Maxon for making this module. Outside of the core app, This and maybe TP will be my favs me thinks.
