Maximizing P2 transfer speed (XP, Cardbus)?
I have a used Dell D410 XP 12″ laptop I’m going to be using as a P2 card backup device. The plan is to upgrade to a 320GB internal HDD, plus an external USB drive for backup verbose redundancy.
Initial tests are a little disappointing so far… using P2CMS, a full 32GB card took over 45 minutes to transfer to only the internal.
What are my options to improve this, costs, speed gains, etc?

Hmmmm…a 32 GB card takes me about as long to offload using my Powerbook. 40 min. If you want faster speeds you need to look into the Panasonic 5-card reader with PCIe…and a tower computer. That’s the fastest way to offload. Not very portable though. You kinda give up speed when you choose portable.

You should look into the Panasonic PCD2 USB card reader. I wrote a review here at the Cow (https://library.creativecow.net/kobler_helmut/panasonic_pcd2/1)
I didn’t test the reader on the PC, but on the Mac, under various scenarios, I copied a 32GB E series card much faster than 45 minutes.
