    Hello all,

I am wondering what would be the max amount of video with an audio track be on a cd-rom? Is it the same type thing as a dvd 1 hour before compression type thing??? It is going to be a self start on a pc-mac. I know that leaves it very open to codecs but… Flash or mpeg-1 maybe?

    Thanks in advance

The suckier you’re willing to make it, the more you can put it on. VCD is one minute of video per minute of audio capacity for the disc. Of course, modern codecs are much better. A good WMV9 or H.264 can likely do a decent 320×240 of four hours or so.

DVD-ROM is much, much larger, of course.

Thak you for the input so you are thinking I could get around 4 hours on a single dvd and still have some quality?

At 320×240, 4 hours should be doable with either WMV-9 or H.264. At 640×480, you are looking at 2 to 2.5 hours. If you are targetting a more general audience however, then you are pretty much limited to a codec that you know they will have, which would be MPEG-1. MPEG-1 at 320×240 will look good enough for most projects and can fit around 1.25 to 1.5 hours on a CD, but limiting it to 1 hour would be best.
