Ok, so I’m not sure if this is a basic or advanced question, so I’ll assume if its advanced I’ll get yelled at for posting in the wrong forum….anyways….here is a link

I really would like to do something like this with the elevator sequence, and the artist would did this told me “we made mattes in After Effects of one section of the elevator and looped it. Then we composited all the other shots behind the elevator mattes”.
Now, my question is—-if I wanted to do this say me shooting a window….could I pull off the same effect or would I have to have something that’s moving in order to loop?

You could do this with a window. What you might want to do is film it on a tripod, and just use a static shot. Then there would be no worries about looping. If you want slight movement of the window, you could set position keyframes at the beginning and end of the window layer and then add wiggle keyframes between them. You would have to scale the layer up slightly so that the layer had room to move without the edges becoming visible, but it would look ok.
