I have a composition with three layers, the layer at the base of all three layers has a track matte on it the layer above is the track matte and then I have a third text layer. The problem is with the text layer which was created in AE. The text is not taking on the properties of the second layer which is the track matte and I’ve tried to pre-comp it and it doesn’t solve the problem. What about track matting two layers this could work but is it possible? Unless someone knows another solution to this?

It sounds like you want to apply the matte layer to both the text and the base layer, is that correct?

If so, then you need to pre-comp both the base layer and the text layer together. You have to multi-select the base layer and the text layer, then use the pre-comp command. After doing that, you would then apply the track matte to the pre-comped layer.

I tried that, and it didn’t work. My base matte layer is called particles and then there is the layer above it then there is the text layer so I selected my particles (matte) layer and my text, and precomp instead what happened was my mask disappeared or turned to all black !

I solved it, I had to change the transfer mode.
