Hi all.. I have some matte extracted from a sports scene… i´ve roto some of the basket players. My question is: is there a way to make this alpha of each player be formed by dots or circles? i don´t mean to do an alpha matte with a dots texture or use the halftone plugin, i would like to form the character by dots in a way that the movement of the player affects the dots that form it… well i don´t know if i have explained my self well, but if anybody could help would be very appreciate

You may want to try a plug-in from Flaming Pear called “India Ink”

    https://www.flamingpear.com/indiaink.html

You can try it for free.

Once you’re in it, use the ‘spots’ pattern. Play with the settings to get the look you want…

    Good luck!

You can use Particle Playground’s Grid option to create a grid of dots. You’ll need to use a dot as your layer map and then use the existing Alpha information as a Persistent Property Mapper that affects Opacity and Scale.

Take a look at my COW Tutorial, Fun in Particle Playland to learn ho how use Layers maps and the persistent property mapper.

Having said all that, I realised that Pete Warden’s free AE plugins has a Halftone effect in his plugin set that may be able to do this. You’ll find the link to his free AE plugins here > Pete Warden’s Free AE Plugins

You might want to look at the CC Ball Action plug-in under Simulate in Effects. I think that comes closest to what you are looking for.
