  • Matrox Rt X2 is not working with Premier correctly

Posted by Alex Badzinski on September 9, 2008 at 2:43 pm

Ok so I was not around when this computer was setup so I can’t give complete details on what processor is in it and what graphics card it has. Its captured on firewire but not matrox avi.. Anyways the editor I’m working on has the matrox rt x2. It is completely installed and the computer recognizes it. When I open premier pro cs3 everything is fine. I go to my capture settings to switch from firewire to matrox card and thats when it all goes crazy. An error comes up stating that the profile is not set and that I need to restart the program. I did that and the same error came up. So the next time I decided to try and click on the matrox and click configure to see if I can change any settings. Again the error came up saying that profile was not set. So then I tried opening a new project under the matrox settings that premier provides just standard dv nothing extravagant. When I clicked ok the Matrox open graphic popped up and the error message came up again that profile is not set only this time the whole program crashes. I have no idea whats wrong with this machine.there is nothing else open when I open premier. I read somewhere that you can’t install service pack 3 before installing your matrox hardware I don’t know if this is true or not and I’m not in charge of IT and don’t want to be blamed if I go ahead and start opening things up and end up screwing it up more than it is. Is there any sort of thing I can do to fix this.

    Hi Alex,

When working with the RT.X2, you must always select a MATROX preset in Adobe Premiere, for instance “Matrox SD > NTSC > DV > Standard”.

Next, if capturing via 1394, you don’t have to “select” the Matrox card in the capture Window. The 1394 on Matrox breakout box is simply a pass-thru, just leave capture setting as 1394.

The only time you’d select “RT.X2” as the capture device is when capturing via Analog input on the breakout box, and then you’d have further options to specify Component, S-video or Composite as the input source.

In other words, if capturing DV via Firewire, select a Matrox DV project preset and go to capture. Period. Should work. Often times, these operational issues are caused by trying too hard and pushing buttons that don’t require pushing.

I’ve put together a 3+ tutorial that explains all this and so much more about using the RT.X2 and Matrox effects, available from Safe Harbor. If you will be working with this system much, the training is a life-saver.

If you have any other questions or issues, fire away! You may want to post future questions in the Matrox area of the Cow to reach the right audience though.

    Thanks

I understand the firewire port and I’ve rigged my system right now to go through that, but I’d like to use the component and its not letting me select that nor configure system to use it.

Just be sure you are using a Matrox preset, and in capture settings, choose RT.X2 as input device. If this doesn’t work, then I’d suspect there is a bad install or some system incompatibility.

Are you using PPro 3.2 and Matrox 3.6 drivers?

Like you said I used the matrox preset and when I went to capture settings all I have is DV HDV and Matrox AVI when I chose the matrox it derailed the computer. This is the latest version of premiere and the matrox drivers appear up to date. I’m sorry if I’m bothering you.

Provided you ARE in a proper Matrox project preset, capture format should always be “Matrox avi”. Do not change this. Click “Configure” button to the right, this is 1394 by default, change to “RT.X2” for analog capture

When I clicked configure thats when I get the error thats title is mvePremiereModules and says The Profile can not be set, you should close the program and restart. I don’t get what it means by profile I use to use premiere pro 1.5 and an older matrox card and never had any problems.

Have you tried a NEW project from scratch, or are you continuing to fight with the same project? Something could be corrupted. Choose NEW project, choose Matrox preset, and if this problem continues, then I suggest uninstalling/reinstalling the Matrox drivers. Doesn’t take very long, certainly less time that has been lost already 😉

Would be interested in learning what motherboard/chipset and display card is in the machine

If you can wait until Friday when the tech comes in I can get all that information and I think I’m going to have to reinstall the whole matrox setup because the plug ins don’t even work.

Hope your hardware is compatible. If reinstall doesn’t work, then I don’t know.

    Has anyone resolved this problem?
I am unable to open a Matrox-HD project. I always get this
mvePremiereModules error “The profile could not be set, you should close the application and restart.”

I’m trying to capture via Firewire to a HD Anamorphic 1080 (1.333) Matrox Project.

    Matrox-SD projects are created okay.
I’m still using Premiere CS3. TO my knowledge HD capture has never worked. It is on an approved computer.
