It’d be nice if they’d give a price. If it’s cheap, it might make an interesting niche product for people who want to preview to a video monitor, but I’m a bit skeptical.

I won’t buy anything from this company again ever. Remember the RTMac? After being first to market for a real time solution for FCP, then last to market to update it then completely dump any support for it, they’ve proven they don’t deserve our business.

No matter how great the product for any price. There are plenty of fantastic inexpensive solutions out there. Leave this company alone. They don’t care about the Mac platform and have proven so in the past. They may release a neat groundbreaking product, but the minute another company comes out with something similar for a better price, they’ll leave you in the dust with no upgrades or support. They WILL abandon you.

Sounds like a clever product, but as we all know, with the RTMac, Matrox lost a lot of trust. Perhaps they’ll work hard to win it back? But what really annoys me is that people who should know better, incorrectly refer to YCbCr video as YUV. It’s not YUV, never will be YUV.

I read somewhere it was about $1,000. I was looking for a gizmo like this. Seems pretty cool to me, but of course I don’t plan on being a guinea pig.

I read on a press release that the product is $995. Graeme, you are quite right about the YUV, I am no longer with Matrox so you can not blame me :). I am a beta tester on the product and it is quite an interesting design.

I’m sorry but I think that price is insane. For that kind of money, you’re already into the price range of the Aja Io. I wouldn’t pay more than maybe $400 for one, assuming I didn’t already have a good DV deck.

Tony, I don’t blame you! All the people I know from Matrox don’t work there any more anyway. But yes, sounds like a very useful product, but I’m guessing it needs special drivers? Be very curious as to how gets around some of the issues FCP has with it’s full screen output too.

AJA IO does not do HD would be the obvious argument.

[TonyManolikakis] “AJA IO does not do HD would be the obvious argument.”

True. I wasn’t thinking about the HD side of it. Still there are PCI & PCIe cards in that price range that will do HD. And, no, they won’t work with a laptop, but I don’t really think that’s worth the extra $$. YMMV, however.

I think what is intersting about this card is the ability to take any full screen output from a system and output it over HD-SDI. That could then be captured using a Kona 2, or Decklink.
