Hi everybody, First off this is not a fcp question but its related to fcp, so here it goes,
I recently bought a Matrox MXO on craigslist to grade a project and it worked Great but after 2 months of use the unit just died on me, I have been emailing and calling matrox for 2 months now as it turns out even though the unit is still under the 3 year warranty They still will not take it because I got it used,
I am really mad about this and will never in my life buy another matrox product ever agin no matter how good they are, there are other options and I have never been treated so bad by a company before,
they don’t even have a 1 800 number, anyway, I can’t seem to find a repair place for this boxes anywhere, and the price for fixing it with them would be a flat 600 to get a refurbished box, so my question is, Does anybody know if there is a place in the states that repairs this boxes? or anybody knows if i can sell this box broken and get al least a part of my money back? I appreciate any input, and take my advice stick with black magic

[Adrian Salinas] “I am really mad about this and will never in my life buy another matrox product ever agin no matter how good they are, there are other options and I have never been treated so bad by a company before,”

You purchased the product used, they are under no obligation to honor a warranty from the original purchaser. Additionally, who is to know how the box got damaged? Was it abused by the original owner?

Matrox has a stellar reputation for producing outstanding products and you purchased a product “As Is.” So no, their customer service is not lacking, it’s your taking on a “buyer beware” product and then turning around to blame the company for something that may or may not be their fault.

Take my advice. Stick with a proper reseller, both new and used, and stay away from places like Craigslist. There is nothing wrong with Matrox. The only thing wrong is where you purchased the product.

This is not really related to FCP. Why didn’t you bring this up in the COW Matrox forum? Maybe someone there can help? I feel your pain, and Matrox isn’t necessarily always perfect, but come on, you DID get it second hand from some dude on Craig’sList, what were you expecting for aftermarket free service? Calm down son, rage isn’t getting you anywhere, especially here.

Sorry, for this experience. But buying second hand equipment is always a risk, and I am not aware of any company that would honor the original warranty. Only if it came from them or an authorized seller. THis happened to me and getting a used DVD player from Sony. Same thing…they didn’t honor the 5 year warranty after it freaked out after 6 months of use.

Thanks for the input, I guess its an expensive lesson and the last time i buy anything from craigslist.

However i would l still like to fix it, i am not against paying I never wanted a free ride, but this guys without seeing my box already had a $600 bill, this is crazy, what if its a fuse or something, this is what I don’t get, and nobody services them in los angeles that i can find that is even crazier
    what I don’t want is a $500 paperweight

but thanks I really appreciate the time, its good to be able to tell this to people that can relate
