I know this has been beat to DEATH. I am about to buy into the MXO and a LCD display idea for my home FCP studio. the small price difference between the Dell and Apple does’nt matter to me .
I have seen no mention in these forums of the fact that the Dell 2407WFP-HC 24 inch LCD does have contrast control and the Apple 23 LCD does not.
Would that not make the Dell display hands down a better choice for color correction over the Apple display? The only advantage the Apple display would have is that it is 59.94 refresh rate compliant and the Dell is 60.00 refresh rate . 59.94 being better for broadcast?
How important is that refresh rate?
MXO and Dell seems to be the on paper winner? So does that leave it open to just personal eyeball choice or what?

    What are your thoughts…….again?

    Thanks to all

I fact, Shane Ross a Dell owner and Cow Host who will undoubtedly post a response in a few minutes, has stated that the MXO was developed for the Apple monitor and that the 59.94 refresh rate you mentioned is an important consideration.

[jonathan beswick] “it does not address the dell monitor issue.”

However, what I said came right out of Shane’s mouth the other night at the LAFCPUG meeting.

OK…I will do my best here as I am posting from my iPhone. I am in D.C. and lack a proper connection.

The 59.94 refresh rate of the ACD vs the 60hz of the Dell isn’t too big of a deal, there is just slight flickering. And while the Dell makes a better computer monitor because of how it handles blacks, when it comes to the MXO, you will get a better image on an ACD. This is because the MXO was designed with the ACD in mind…designed to convert the YUV signal it extracts from the DVI port into a broadcast quality signal onto the specific LCD that the ACD uses. It is different than the one the Dell uses.

And with the new features that allow you to adjust the image to the bars, and blue only option, means that you will get a great image. But having a Dell and ACD, I have found the quality of the image much better on the ACD.

Now, that was a lot of typing on this small phone. I gotta stop.

Wow, you are braver man than I , And no mis- spelling with the touch screen. Brilliant.
Thanks for the detailed breakdown, I guess with the MXO proc amp, it really does not matter if the Display has a contrast control for this application. As I get older everything flickers a bit anyway …go figure.

Thanks again, I think we’ll go with the ACD.

Thanks again Shane for the quick reply (under finger duress)
Do you know if the ATi 9800 pro video board has any issues with this product. Its not listed on the matrox web site. My G5 is a couple of years old (Duel 2g) and that was the best card at the time.

    Thank you so much again..
    cheers
