  • Matrox Codecs missing in After Effects | How to import Codecs

    Greetings,

I deliver videos to a client in a specific Matrox codec. In aftereffect 2015 this was no problem. Since we’ve upgrading (windows 10, and AE2018) we are now seeing issues.

We ran the installation program from Matrox (vfwcodecs_20.exe) and still we aren’t seeing the codecs in AE when exporting.

Is there a way to import this into aftereffects/media encoder?
Aftereffects CC 2018 (had same issue in 17)

    Below are some screenshots. Thanks!

WHEN INSTALLING MATROX Setup doesn’t allow us to choose where the codecs are being installed. It just puts them on C by default. (This is where the codecs were installed on my old machine when everything worked)

in your Win10 screen shot, it doesn’t look like you are accessing the output module settings…

try choosing edit > templates > output module and clicking ‘new’. set format to ‘video for windows’ then click ‘format options’ and see if the codec is listed in the menu there.

I just noticed that difference in the screen grabs… the avi option may have replaced video for windows in newer Ae versions…. unfortunately I don’t have Ae on a Windows box to check.

There may be issues with older codecs on newer OS’s or even newer versions of Ae… I did go to Matrox’s site, and could not find a Win10 version of those software codecs, so that might the issue.

Do you also have a Matrox card in your PC, or are you only installing the software codecs? Thinking that this could be a driver issue if you also have the card installed….

Kevin thank you so much for all your time and help! I do not have matrox card installed on my machine. The AVI option has always been what we’ve used (even on our older versions) I did check the other formats and still didnt find any of the matrox codecs under the format tabs.

Thinking it might be an OS issues as well. However, there are other people on our team and I am almost certain they are using Windows 10 (just sent an email to confirm).

    Christina-

Did you ever solve your Matrox codec issue?

I haven’t had to use the Matrox codec in a while, but several of my animations from years back used it.
Today when I tried to import some of the old Matrox MOVs, I got the same error you did.

Also tried reinstalling the 2018 Matrox VFW codec, but nothing changed.
