Matchmoving After Effects CC vs PFtrack
Posted by Stig Olsen on November 5, 2013 at 10:01 amHi,
Im looking for a more affordable 3D tracking software than PFtrack to build a matchmove for Houdini.
How is After Effects CCs new 3D camera solver compared to PFtrack?Stig

Here’s the biggest difference with the AE tracker.
You can’t mask out actors or anything that’s moving which will mess up your track using the AE tracker.
The AE tracker is good for what it does. Allow you to do simple tracks without any talent or moving objects.
You can’t do a ‘supervised’ track with the AE tracker.
If all you’re wanting to do is add some text to a scene, it can work, but for green screen tracking and other more specific jobs, the AE tracker isn’t going to cut it.
Syntheyes on the other hand is a professional quality tracker with more features than I know what to do with.
It’s reasonably priced too.
Hope this helps.

November 28, 2013 at 5:11 pmIf you’ve got AE, then you can upgrade your copy of Mocha AE bundled to Mocha Pro this weekend (at least in the U.S.) for a very reasonable cost. The Mocha tracker is exceptional, and the remove feature in Pro is awesome.
