Matching white balance with other video camcorders
I shoot concerts and the primary cameras used are often Panasonic HVX-200 while DSLRS like the 7D are sprinkled in. We don’t have a monitor or a budget for a professional color grader to fix in post, so I put a great value in syncing them as much as possible beforehand.
I’ve had fairly good luck, but I’d like to hear if anyone has any further wisdom. We manually set the viewfinders beside one another on the same subject. I set the HVX to 3.2k, but the 7Ds often need to go to 2500k or lower to look the same. Later on, that has seemed about right, but other times the viewfinder seems to have been untrustworthy.
What is the mindset on trusting the viewfinder vs. just the same color temperature, i.e. setting all cams on Tungsten?
