Matching settings, still have to render every clip.
Hi everyone!
I am writing about something that is driving me insane. I am setting up a new default project in Final Cut Pro, and importing video files to it. Whenever I try to place one of these imported clips into the sequence, FCP asks me if I want the sequence to match the clip, and I say yes. When I check the sequence properties, they match the clip’s properties. Yet, when I try to import the clips, I have to render them every time, as if the formats did not match. What am I doing wrong?
The video in question is in NTSC CCIR 601, H.264 codec, 873×480, 23.98 fps. I’m running FCP 7.0.3.

You have to transcode the H264 clips to Prores.

Your sequence and footage needs to be an FCP friendly editing codec. ProRes is what you want to convert your clips to.

And you need to chose a standard editing frame size. Your footage is actually 720 x 480 anamorphic SD so convert to that in ProRes 422.
