matchframe editing for “cleaner EDL”?
Has anybody heard of this? A client of mine recently asked me if I “matchframe edit.” She said that her editing teacher said, if you always reference the original clip (by pressing F to pull it up in the Viewer) and cut that in the timeline rather than copy or pasting from within the timeline, that makes a “cleaner edit decision list”. So just in case down the line- if she wants to use her EDL to go back to the 16mm film it was shot on and cut from there, it will be “cleaner.” Is this true? I don’t know much about cutting to film so I just said I’d always matchframe edit while working on her project.
Now I’ve noticed that this is getting bothersome and I am truly fond of copy and paste. Should I follow her advice? I thought that even when you copy and paste clips within the timeline, they always reference the original clip. Am I wrong?
Anybody familiar with this who can give their two cents is greatly appreciated!

Hi Julia,
In the end everything that you put in the time-line will be referenced to the master clips, but when using Match frame this reference is more direct. Probably this will simplify the EDL.
In the practice will be no much difference. When using Match Frame you will lose the attributes that you my have changed to the clip in the sequence.
