    I’ve just run into an odd issue when I was called to help someone with a show they’re working on and would appreciate any support from you guys.

    The Video was shot in XD-Cam and they want to merge it to audio which was recorded separately. Some significant details of the footage they are merging are as follows:

    XD-Cam = 1 Video, 2 Audio channels from the camera.
    WAV = 4 audio channels

    The workflow they were doing was to merge from the browser by marking the in point on the XD-Cam video and an in point on the WAV file, selecting both clips in the browser, Modify/Merge by in points. A new clip is created and the word Merged appears at the end.

    The problem is once the clip is edited into the timeline and try to match frame it to the merged clip, it matches to the source, instead.

    The weird thing is that out of several merged clips on the timeline, not all of them have this malfunction. Some actually match to the merged clip.

    Is there an explanation for this? Is this a known bug in 6.05? Any insight you may have would be most appreciated.

    Lastly, I should mention that I tried a couple workarounds:

    One, by selecting a merged clip from the timeline, both audio and video, linked them and created an independent clip. This successfully matched to the merged clip to a degree. For some reason, it doesn’t work on all the clips.

    Two, by merging the clips from the Timeline instead of the Browser. This seemed to work but has several more steps involved. Particularly, once you have linked the clips you want to merge and drag them to the browser, a new clip with the exact name of the top-most video is created. When we try to change the name of the new merged clip to distinguish it from the original, the original clip also changes to the same name. It wasn’t until we dragged the merged clip to a sequence and modified it to an independent clip that it finally acted on its own. We also had to answer to the Duplicate Master Clip dialog box.

    Their system is running on FCP 6.05, Dual Processor Mac Pro with 2GB ram.

    Thank you in advance. You guys rock!
