match frame problems now with changed directory
Posted by Sandra Danilovic on August 7, 2009 at 10:35 pmI am having problems with the match frame option. I just changed directories, from a network server to an external drive (copied ALL my files from the server onto an external drive). When I try to match frame something (match frame-source file), FCP goes to the network server files, NOT to my external drive files.
So my files on the timeline are PINK, I’m assuming because they are taken from the server directory instead, not my own external drive. My capture scratch is set to my external drive, but I still have this problem.
MANY thanks for the help!!!!

August 8, 2009 at 12:03 amIn the future you should always use the copy function in Media Manager to copy all files and to create a new project when making such a move. However, since you have already moved the files manually, you should take the server offline or temporarily disconnect from the network. Then, all of the files on the server will go offline, and when you reconnect to the files in the new location FCP will no longer look to the server.

August 8, 2009 at 12:03 amWell, you copied the media over, but the clips are still pointing to the media where you originally left it. Unless you disconnect from the network drive, the clips will always point to the media there. When you do disconnect, the clips will go “Hey, where is all the media?” You say “Over here doofus, on this drive!” and they go “Alright, they they are. Come to papa.” and they reconnect. THen you can connect to the network drive again.

August 8, 2009 at 6:54 pmCopying an entire project using Media Manager is actually quite simple Sandra. Take a peek at the following tutorial on YouTube. In you case, you would hit Apple+a highlight everything in the browser before launching MM, but all of the other instructions in the tutorial are right on the money. It’s really easy, give it a shot, and because you’re using “copy” not “move” it completely non-destructive, so there’s nothing to worry about if you somehow mess up.

August 9, 2009 at 3:17 pmHi David, yes, the only reason why I don’t want to employ Media Manager right now is because I have already copied all my files (1.86 TB of it!) onto RAID external drives (3TB each), one working and the other, a backup drive.
So, I am presuming it would mean erasing my files and taking another 1 or 2 days to recopy stuff via Media Manager. I will be back in the edit room tomorrow, and will try using a different Mac computer to see how my media files are reconnecting from my external drive. Essentially, right now, the problem is:
1) I can’t use match frame because FCP goes to the server, not my drive
2) 14 of my media files are offline (all of them are freeze frames)
3) when I try to reconnect my offline media files, again, FCP reconnects them to the network server where my duplicates are, not from my external driveAnyway…sorry for my long email. I really need the tech support after working on this project for months on end. (It’s a one-hour indie doc.)
CHEERS and many thanks again!!!
