Mastering in DV/HDV Troubles!!!
Let me start by saying this is probably something I should know, and probably has to be user error, but I can’t get my FCP to master DV or HDV to a Sony deck that is made for DV/HDV. Here is what I am working with, what i am trying to do, and how I have gone about it. Any suggestions would be a great help.
I have a MacBook Pro, version 10.5.2, (its about a month old)
I have terabyte drives, that operate in a FirmTek chassie. They are connected to my computer via the card slot and a SATA adaptor.
I have FCP (latest version)
I have a Sony HVR-M1OU deck.I originally started this project making a tease open for an event that is next week. I had to combine footage that was shot in 4:3, standard definition, and footage that is 16:9 (high definition, shot on a DVCPro that shoots 720p). There are also several animations, and motion incorporations as well those were created in HDV1080i60.
Everything was flowing smoothly until it came time to master. The requirements for the project are 16:9 format (obviously the 4:3 footage is in between the margins, it was not changed to anamorphic) but the project does not need to be high def. It is eventually airing on the internet, and that is it!
All I need to get it to do is master, and be for the most part in 16:9. I started working in an HDV timeline, everything is rendered with HDV as the Compressor, so I thought it would all work. When it came time to master, my LCD screen on the deck showed the video in what looked to be “letterbox” margins for 4:3. I have never seen it do this before, but it was not using the full screen like the timeline and viewer were showing. (Double Letterboxing, I guess.)
I read on a forum in creative cow, that HDV footage can not be monitored in a deck through firewire. I took that for what it was worth and began troubleshooting.
I created a new sequence with DV as my Easy Setup, rendered out the footage, and the image was perfect!!! Exactly the way I needed it to be. I started to master, and the video would not keep up with what the computer was outputting. My viewer and timeline were flowing smoothly, but the deck would freeze on the first frame. The audio however was working fine coming through the deck.
What am I doing wrong? I am desperate for any assistance anyone could provide. Surely mastering video out of FCP into an HDV/DV deck can’t be that difficult, so obviously I have screwed up somewhere.
Thanks for you assistance.
