I received omf’s from our sound designer (treatments to a character’s voice). When I import the OMF, I get a message that reads: “The clip you are importing conflicts with one already found in the system. All of the media for the clip was found in the file you are importing. Do you want to merge the clip into the system and replace the corresponding media contained in the original clip?”

Choices are Yes, Yes to All, No, No to All. If I check ‘yes’, it seems it will overwrite the original media; don’t want to do that. If I check ‘no’ then it brings in the clips, but not the media. I would have thought the Avid would make ‘.new’ clips to differentiate the new media from the old, but it doesn’t seem to offer that option.

What’s the correct workflow to resolve this or to avoid the conflict in the first place?

    Thanks.

OMF retains the original MOB ID and other indentifiers which allows things like automatic relink etc. to work. If you want this to be a brand new clip, export from sound system as WAV or BWAV to have timecode.
