I’m having a rather frustrating problem in After Effects. I took footage of a man talking in front of a green screen and keyed out the green background using keylight, and it looked good aside from his hair, which is flickery and messed-up after the keying. So I duplicated the layer and placed it exactly over the oroginal footage, lowered the screen gain on the duplicate layer, and traced an outline around the top of the man’s head so only his hair would be receiving the lower key gain setting. The problem is that every time I do that it creates a darker outline along the edge of the mask for no reason. If I set the feathering higher, the area along the edge of the mask that is the gradient is darker than the rest of either the top or bottom image. I don’t understand why. It should just be the exact same shade in the gradient areas, but it darkens it for some reason. This problem only seems to come up when i have the keylight effect on in the top layer. Does anybody know why this would be happening, or what I can do to fix it? I’d appreciate any help.
