I want to have a piece of tree bark be the “movie screen” for a re-enactment footage, but I want to be able to adjust how much the bark shows through over or under the re-enactment footage. I’ve been trying different making options but have found that I need 2 tracks of the bark to do this. Any help here? Thanks…

    1/- Track 1 your Video

    2/- Track 2 your Bark

Set Track 1 Compositing Mode to Multiple Mask. I like this type of activity, it can really bring out an authentic Narrative.

I’ve suggested Multiple, but also try other Compo Modes too. You can also adjust the Levels of each; adjust the saturation of the Bark; use Bump Map with an up-lighter. There’s so much on offer.

I’m using VP12 now and the Layers Dimensionality – similar to Bump Map or Displacement Map – has been a revelation to me too.

    Much to experiment with.

How did that “Highway” come out in the end?

    Cheers

This is the first time I’ve seen the “layer dimensionality” and what a nice new feature that is. Thanks for mentioning it.

Ahh Grazie, you remember…I put that highway off to the side for now, but I’d love to take another shot at it, with my improved skills and concentration. Thanks also for the “Bark-Screen” tips. I’ll post back at you when I get my results.

Okay, video on track one, bark on two, another video track on three. Mask on the video, show the video n just the bark. The bark is a child of video track one, so I the third track video shows nicely, but I can regulate the extent of the bark, when I lower the level the entire bark showing video disappears. What am I doing wrong? Thanks…Here’s what it looks like…

I got it! Eureka! I simply added the invert filter to the pine bark event and blended it to the amount of bark I wanted to show through the video. Any other ideas? Thanks
